After flying high against Bay Area Christian last Wednesday, Lutheran South Academy came back down to earth. The Pioneers took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Michael's Warriors on Thursday. The Pioneers' defeat signaled the end of their 13-game winning streak.
While Lutheran South Academy had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 21 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 17-25, 25-22, 25-23.
Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sami-Rae Robles, who had eight digs and five aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Wittman, who had eight digs and two aces.
Frida Hernandez was a one-woman wrecking crew For St. Michael's. as she had 20 digs and two aces. Hernandez is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last 15 games she's played.
Lutheran South Academy's loss dropped their record down to 28-7. As for St. Michael's, they are on a roll lately: they've won 18 of their last 22 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 34-12-1 record this season.
Lutheran South Academy will take on Saint Mary's Hall at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Michael's does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
