Thornton hasn't had much luck against Aurora Central recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Thornton will venture away from home to square off against Aurora Central at 4:00 p.m. Thornton has given up an average of 14.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Things were looking good for Thornton after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They came up short against Overland, falling 22-4.
Thornton saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Stehle, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Caleb Zike also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Aurora Central didn't have quite enough to beat Gateway on Thursday and fell 6-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Olympians: they've now lost four in a row.
Toby Sanchez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he struck out 14 batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Sanchez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Andres Aguillera made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Thornton's record now sits at 2-10. As for Aurora Central, their record is now 3-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Thornton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Aurora Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Thornton suffered a grim 16-6 defeat to Aurora Central when the teams last played on April 2nd. Can Thornton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
