LAKE CORMORANT, Miss. - After four lead changes,
Lake Cormorant (Miss.) took the lead for good when
Austion Byrd ran for a touchdown with 2:00 remaining in the third quarter and held on to beat
Center Hill (Olive Branch, Miss.) 47-28 on Saturday.
After nabbing the lead on a
Danterius Ellington touchdown pass to
Robert Smith, the Mustangs went into halftime with a 14-10 lead. Lake Cormorant scored the winning points with an Byrd touchdown run that came in the third quarter.
When the two teams played each other last season, LC came away with a 30-24 victory.
The victory was a step in the right direction for Lake Cormorant, which was coming off a 24-21 defeat at the hands of West Point in its previous game.
Lake Cormorant (6-3) will play a 5A Region 1 game against Clarksdale next week, while Center Hill (1-8) will take on Oxford also in a 5A Region 1 game.
