The Wilkes Central Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Bunker Hill Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bunker Hill took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Wilkes Central, who comes in off a win.
After only 25 points in their last game, Wilkes Central made sure to put some points up on the board against West Iredell on Friday. Wilkes Central took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 56-27 victory over West Iredell.
Anna Rollins was her usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with 7 steals and 5 assists. The contest was her fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Lyon, who scored 14 points along with 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Bunker Hill's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. Their rough 66-40 loss to St. Stephens might stick with them for a while. Bunker Hill has not had much luck with St. Stephens recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Bunker Hill got a solid performance out of Damireona Burch, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Megan Starnes, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds.
The losses dropped Wilkes Central to 2-3 and West Iredell to 0-5.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's game: Wilkes Central have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 33.6% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Bunker Hill, though, as they've only made 28.2% of theirs this season. Given Wilkes Central's sizeable advantage in that area, Bunker Hill will need to find a way to close that gap. Wilkes Central took their win against Bunker Hill when the teams last played back in December of 2021 by a conclusive 64-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wilkes Central since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
