IV Section II recap September 4, 2013
Aaron Fanning of Rio Rico ran for the longest rushing play in IV Section II this season against Tombstone last week. Fanning scampered for 95 yards on the play and finished with 272 on the day as his team beat the Yellow Jackets.
Safford was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in the league. The Bulldogs defeated Baboquivari 52-0 earlier in the week.
Fanning was a passing and rushing force as Rio Rico defeated Tombstone. Fanning's key target this week was Jose Valle, who caught 2 passes for 48 yards.
Milo Fragoso was the best wideout in the league this week as Sahuarita topped Walden Grove. Fragoso racked up 6 receptions for 86 yards. Kayden Bedolla helped Sahuarita's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 21 yards.
Fanning was the best running back in IV Section II this week. Teammate John Brewington added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.
Ray Holbrook put up the best numbers through the air as Amphitheater lost to Pueblo. He finished with 6 completions for 52 yards. Holbrook's favorite target this week was Tony Villa, who caught 3 passes for 43 yards.
Fanning was a force in the backfield as Kevin Kuhm's team beat Joe Thomas' team.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Mustangs' Rocko Vega and Fragoso have proven to be a lethal combination. Vega has thrown for 240 yards this season, while Fragoso, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 11 catches for 189 yards. The Hawks' Fanning leads the league in rushing yards with 272.
Palo Verde moved up to 118 from 173 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Titans were able to make move up by topping Empire 24-14.
