The McNairy Central Bobcats will take on the Dunlap Eagles in a tournament on Thursday. McNairy Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
While McNairy Central didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 7-3 win over Rossview on Saturday.
Carlee Shelton was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, Kenli Bingham was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Chanley Steele also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
McNairy Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Dunlap put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Boone Grove an 8-0 shutout.
Like McNairy Central, Dunlap also got a great game from a two-way player: Sutton Centoni. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Centoni was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaitlyn Atkinson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Addison Forsythe, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
McNairy Central's record now sits at 7-5. As for Dunlap, their record is now 4-0.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. McNairy Central has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Dunlap struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
