The George County Rebels will square off against the Picayune Maroon Tide at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. George County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
On Friday, George County needed a bit of extra time to put away Long Beach. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Bearcats 6-4. Six seems to be a good number for the Rebels as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Canyon Reeves was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other pitching news, Bryce O'Neal looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because George County is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 7-8 otherwise.
Reeves wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tripp Lightsey, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances. Cayler Havard was another, getting on base in three of his six plate appearances with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Picayune came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Hurricanes by a score of 10-7. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Maroon Tide considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Justin Stockstill was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Brunson Stockstill, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Picayune was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Harrison only posted a batting average of .091.
George County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. Picayune's victory bumped their record up to 17-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. George County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Picayune struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went George County's way against Picayune when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as George County made off with a 10-0 win. Will George County repeat their success, or does Picayune has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
