The Fitch Falcons waltzed into Friday's matchup with five straight wins but they left with six. They took down East Lyme 34-17. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Fitch also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2022.
Fitch got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ben Perry out in front who rushed for 78 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries, and also threw for 51 yards and a touchdown. Porter Carter was another key contributor, gaining 109 total yards and a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why East Lyme lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aidan Patterson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown. Patterson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards.
Fitch's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-6 Waterford and 3-6 Woodstock Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 35.1% over those games). As for East Lyme, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fitch will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Ledyard at 10:00 a.m. on November 23rd. East Lyme will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Waterford at 10:00 a.m. on November 23rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Connecticut (Waterford is ranked 118th, while East Lyme is ranked 93rd).
