The Huguenot Falcons had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They managed a 25-20 victory over Powhatan on Friday. Winning may never get old, but Huguenot sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Huguenot's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but John Washington led the charge by rushing for 181 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.6 yards per carry. Jason Wright was another key contributor, throwing for 205 yards and three touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Powhatan saw an underclassman step up: Ben Whitver picked up 128 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Huguenot's victory was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.6 points per game. As for Powhatan, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Huguenot will head out on the road to face off against Varina at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Varina will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last. Powhatan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
