The Screven County Gamecocks suffered their biggest defeat since December 12, 2023 on Saturday. They had to suffer through a rough 84-31 loss at the hands of Portal. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Screven County in their matchups with Portal: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Screven County saw an underclassman step up: Brennen Fountain scored 16 points.
Portal's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joseph Thomas led the charge by scoring 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Brian McQueen was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Screven County has been struggling recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Portal, they pushed their record up to 17-1 with that win, which was their 22nd straight at home.
Screven County will head out on the road to square off against Emanuel County Institute at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Portal, Portal and Montgomery County will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Montgomery County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 448th, while Portal is ranked 35th).
