Jackson Zimmerman was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Nicholas County: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 12-15 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Bentley Crump, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Nicholas County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bath County only posted an OBP of .304.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Frankfort made sure to put some runs up on the board against Paris on Tuesday. The Panthers never let the Greyhounds get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Panthers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 13-3).
Gavin Proffitt was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryan Starkey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and four runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Will Beshear was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Nicholas County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Frankfort, their record is now 12-13.
Nicholas County came out on top in a nail-biter against Frankfort when the teams last played back in April of 2016, sneaking past 10-8. Do the Bluejackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
