Football Recap: Winona Skates Past Amanda Elzy with Ease

It was a proper cat-fight when Winona took on Amanda Elzy on Friday. The Tigers took their game with ease, bagging a 39-8 victory over the Panthers. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 27-0.

Landon Crawford had an outrageously good game as he threw for 149 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 41 yards and one touchdown. What's more, he racked up 107 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Winona was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 213 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 163 rushing yards in 11 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Winona's defense and their four sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Antonio Young, Quincy Burt, and Kameron Hobbs, who each picked up one sack apiece.

When it comes to explaining why Amanda Elzy lost, don't look at Jar'Kavion Clemon. Despite the final result, he rushed for 103 yards on only nine carries, and also threw for 108 yards and one touchdown. A healthy portion of that aerial production (91 yards to be exact) went to Demarcus Brown, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Winona's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Amanda Elzy, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Winona and Amanda Elzy will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Tigers are set to square off against their familiar foe Aberdeen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Amanda Elzy will face off against rival Humphreys County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
