There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. A special shoutout goes to Perry's junior Chubba Purdy, who scored seven total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
No Stoppin 'Em
It isn't too difficult to come out on top when you enjoy a 273-yard edge over your opponent, and Perry had just that last week. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Hamilton, finishing up at 63 - 28. At 35 points, that marked Perry's largest margin of victory so far this year. The combined 91-point effort made this the highest-scoring game in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
On paper, the match between Highland (5th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Queen Creek (9th) looked as though it might be one of the more compelling ones, but things did not play out that way on the field. Highland breezed past Queen Creek with a final score of 38 - 7. 38 is shaping up to be Highland's lucky number as the team posted the same point total in its win over Corona del Sol the game before.
Movin on Up
Thatcher has been an offensive powerhouse for five straight weeks after the team lit up the scoreboard again last week. The final score between it and Round Valley was a 42 - 3 blowout in Thatcher's favor. Thatcher did have the odds in its favor, but the team did even better than the MaxPreps state rankings indicated. The team's efforts were enough to boost its power ranking by seven, which was the most sizeable gain made by any team in the rankings.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Desert Vista (6th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and Queen Creek (9th). Desert Vista will be strutting in after a win while Queen Creek will be stumbling in from a defeat. We'll see if Desert Vista can add another positive mark to its record or if Queen Creek can shake off its loss and take the spring out of Desert Vista's step.
