The Summit Academy Bears entered their tilt with the East Leopards with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Summit Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against East on Saturday and snuck past 50-48. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Summit Academy also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Avery Backus was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven assists and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Summit Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Johnson, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Summit Academy's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-7.
Summit Academy will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Providence Hall at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. East will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Alta at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd. Alta will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
