South Platte is 0-9 against Wallace since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The South Platte Blue Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Wallace Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. South Platte is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
South Platte scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Sutherland 63-36 on the road. Given South Platte's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while Sutherland is ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Platte's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Quinten Koenen, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and six assists. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. Cavin Lanman was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight steals.
Meanwhile, Wallace was able to grind out a solid victory over Medicine Valley on Monday, taking the game 53-44. The win made it back-to-back wins for Wallace.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wallace to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jason Fisher, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Those 11 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Matt Lungrin, who scored 16 points.
South Platte's record is now 5-1. As for Wallace, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Thursday's match is shaping up to be a scrappy match: South Platte have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 34.2 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Wallace, though, as they've been averaging only 23 rebounds per game. Given South Platte's sizeable advantage in that area, Wallace will need to find a way to close that gap.
South Platte came up short against Wallace when the teams last played back in January, falling 41-34. Thankfully for South Platte, Trey Robertson (who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
