Basketball Recap: Isabel Garza and Marihya Portis Secure Win for Foothill

Foothill had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They walked away with a 38-31 victory over the Del Oro Suns.

Foothill was led to victory by Marihya Portis and Isabel Garza. Portis posted a point along with 13 steals and six rebounds, while Garza scored five points in addition to seven assists and five boards. The dominant performance gave Portis a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda Green, who put up seven points in addition to 11 boards and three steals.

Foothill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matchups.

Defeat or not, Del Oro got some senior leadership from Ke'Mani Welch and Maria Venegas. Welch earned ten points, while Venegas had ten points. Venegas continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Foothill's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Del Oro, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Foothill will be playing at home against Arvin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Del Oro, they will head out to challenge Mira Monte at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Del Oro is facing Mira Monte at the right time seeing as Mira Monte is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
