The Manteo Redskins were the 41-37 winner over the Currituck County Knights when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Manteo took a 44-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Currituck County on Monday. While losing is never fun, Manteo can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Currituck County is ranked 154th).
Despite the loss, Manteo still got an impressive performance from Sydnee Ballance, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Currituck County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Madison Leonard, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her. Arianna White was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Manteo now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Currituck County, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-2.
Manteo will be playing at home against Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pasquotank County comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Currituck County, they will head out on the road to face off against Holmes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
