Sumter County hasn't had much luck against Jordan recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Panthers will take on the Red Jackets at 4:30 p.m. Sumter County has given up an average of 14.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Sumter County lost 15-5 to Turner County on Thursday.
Wayne Harvey made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Dutcher, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Jordan made easy work of Chattahoochee County on Saturday and carried off a 12-1 win. Considering the Red Jackets have won eight contests by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Chase Scott made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Jordan is 2-1 when Scott allows one or fewer hits, but 8-11 otherwise. Scott was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Brody Catlin was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Jordan: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carson Lemelin, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Jordan hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Jordan is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Sumter County, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sumter County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Jordan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sumter County suffered a grim 20-2 defeat to Jordan when the teams last played back in March of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
