The Sahuarita Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their ninth straight defeat. They took a 62-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Douglas. Sahuarita has struggled against the Bulldogs recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
When it comes to explaining why Sahuarita lost, one person who can't be blamed is Daniel Durazo. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Durazo has scored all season. Zack Myhre was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds.
It was another big night for Diego Lopez, who scored 24 points along with two steals for Douglas. That makes it three consecutive games in which Lopez has scored at least a third of Douglas' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Trahin-Quijada, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
Sahuarita's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-19. As for Douglas, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-12.
Sahuarita will take on the Thunderbolts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mica Mountain knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully the Mustangs like a good challenge. As for Douglas, they will head out on the road to challenge the Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Walden Grove is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 66.5 points per game this season.
