The La Marque Cougars's and the Bay City Blackcats's matchup on Tuesday was close at halftime, but the La Marque Cougars turned on the heat in the second half with 41 points. Everything went La Marque's way against Bay City as La Marque made off with a 57-35 win. Winning may never get old, but La Marque sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
La Marque was led to victory by Brendan Harris and Jasiya Johnson. Harris dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Johnson scored 14 points along with eight assists and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jecaryous Oliver, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Bay City still got an impressive performance from Alex Estrada, who scored 17 points. That was a full 48.6% of Bay City's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Adrian Molina, who scored five points.
Bay City struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as La Marque pulled down 13 offensive rebounds.
La Marque is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 17-16 record this season. As for Bay City, their defeat was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 5-18.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Brazosport the next time they take the court. Bay City will head out to face Brazosport at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while La Marque will host them at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
