San Juan Hills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Timmy Herr, who threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 46 yards. Herr's passing game has become a key predictor of the Stallions' success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. 130 of Herr's passing yards were hauled in by Ryan Matheson, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
San Juan Hills' defense stepped up as well, laying out Oscar Rios three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jacob Mullen, Noah Howell, and Cooper Chila, who each picked up one sack apiece. Mullen was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Los Alamitos was not the first on the board on Friday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 35-28 win over Yorba Linda. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Griffins were down 28-14 in the second quarter.
Los Alamitos' win came from a few key players San Juan Hills will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kamden Tillis, who rushed for 95 yards and one TD, and also picked up 37 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Colin Creason, who threw for 206 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Los Alamitos' run defense was locked in: Yorba Linda could only muster 3.5 yards per carry. The Griffins didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.8.
San Juan Hills' record now sits at 9-2. As for Los Alamitos, their record is now an identical 9-2.
Everything came up roses for San Juan Hills against Los Alamitos in their previous meeting back in September of 2015, as the team secured a 54-26 win. In that game, the Stallions amassed a halftime lead of 40-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
