Section 3 Class C - West recap Oct. 23, 2012
Zack Harding of Bishop Ludden ran for the longest rushing play in Section 3 Class C - West this season against Canastota last week. Harding ran for 86 yards on the play and finished with 106 on the day as his team defeated the Red Raiders.
Skaneateles moved up to 28 from 57 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Lakers were able to make move up by defeating General Brown 49-14.
Hannibal's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Trevor Alton threw for 194 and five touchdowns and Billy Lewis had 120 yards receiving. On the ground Brandon Burnett chipped in 265 yards. Greg Hadcock helped Hannibal's passing attack out by catching one ball for 40 yards.
Conor Herr provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Skaneateles bested the Lions. He completed 14 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 51 yards. Herr's favorite target this week was Jake Cooney, who caught seven passes for 96 yards.
Joe Sindoni's team's Herr and Cooney have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Herr has thrown for 2025 yards this season, while Cooney, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 51 catches for 770 yards. Jordan-Elbridge's Colby Trexler leads the league in rushing yards with 1349.
The top two teams in Section 3 Class C - West will face off this week when first place Skaneateles takes on second place Bishop Ludden. Last week, the Lakers beat General Brown, while Bishop Ludden topped Canastota.
Skaneateles' Max Weiss needs only 67 yards against Mike Rogers' team next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 125 carries Weiss has accumulated 933 yard this year.
There should be lots of points scored when the Lakers and the Gaelic Knights face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Skaneateles comes in having scored 384 this season, while Bishop Ludden has scored 260. The Lakers scored 49 points last week as they beat Tom Frears' team.
