Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, a fact the Gibbs Eagles proved on Friday. They came out on top against Seymour by a score of 65-54. The win made it back-to-back wins for Gibbs.
Leading Gibbs to victory were Zack Turner and Kamen Shown. Turner scored 16 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds, while Shown scored 20 points along with eight rebounds. The matchup was Turner's 17th in a row with at least ten points. Mason Melton was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Seymour lost, one person who can't be blamed is Cameron Soulages. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Soulages scored a full 44.4% of Seymour's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Mcabee, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds.
Gibbs pushed their record up to 8-9 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.5 points per game. As for Seymour, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gibbs and Anderson County will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Anderson County presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Gibbs in Tennessee (Anderson County is ranked 114th, while Gibbs is ranked 270th). Seymour is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Carter at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th.
