On Monday, South Plantation was able to grind out a solid victory over Southridge, taking the game 65-53. Given South Plantation's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while Southridge is ranked 156th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South Plantation got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Harry Gelin out in front who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Dwight Stephens was another key contributor, scoring 18 points along with two steals.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rey Daniels, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Daniels continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jan Lopez, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Southridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Plantation only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
South Plantation has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. As for Southridge, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.
South Plantation will be playing in front of their home fans against Nova at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Nova is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak. Southridge won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Killian at 1:30 p.m. on January 16th. Killian is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
