Blaire Fox was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Macey Alexander was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Brooklyn Campebell was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Murphysboro kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 18 runs the game before, Frankfort was a bit more limited in their contest on Tuesday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Hamilton County. The loss continues a trend for the Redbirds in their meetings with the Foxes: they've now lost nine in a row.
Jenna Deason made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Murphysboro's record now sits at 14-16. As for Frankfort, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-20.
Frankfort's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Murphysboro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Frankfort, though, as they've been averaging only 2.2 strikeouts. Will Murphysboro keep running through batters, or will the Redbirds buck the trend?
Everything went Murphysboro's way against Frankfort in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Murphysboro made off with a 17-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
