Basketball Recap: Culver Academies Snaps 12-Game Streak of Wins at Home

After a string of four wins, Culver Academies's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 48-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the LaVille Lancers. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Lancers 14-10 in the first quarter.

Brooke Edison was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 boards for LaVille. Edison is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 33 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Mackena Deason, who went 5 of 10 en route to 15 points.

Culver Academies' defeat ended a 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-3. As for LaVille, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.

Culver Academies and LaVille should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings. Culver Academies (ranked 56th) will meet South Bend Riley (ranked 232nd) at 2:30 p.m. on January 11, 2025. Similarly, LaVille (ranked 115th) will meet New Prairie (ranked 342nd) at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
