The Knightdale Knights had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They secured a 43-39 W over Wake Forest. The win was all the more spectacular given Knightdale's disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Wake Forest is ranked 101st).
Knightdale found their leader in underclassman Abigail Taylor, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Taylor has scored all season. Andrea Watkins was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Wake Forest lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Audra Hillman, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Hillman is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor McCartney, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Wake Forest struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Knightdale's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. As for Wake Forest, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Knightdale will take on Heritage at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Heritage is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Wake Forest, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Wakefield at 6:15 p.m. on January 19th. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine last Monday.
