Softball Recap: Monday's Win Is Hillsboro's Ninth in Last 11 Outings

There's no place like home for Hillsboro, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Chillicothe Cavaliers an 18-0 shutout on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Camryn Spruell was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Myleah Fridley was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Reagan Clemons was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Hillsboro was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .421. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chillicothe only posted a batting average of .118.

Hillsboro has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Chillicothe, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 12-3.

Hillsboro will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Cavaliers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
