Mitchell Fisher was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
In other batting news, Isaiah Hoerlein made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Cole Nickerson, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
As for Memphis, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.1 runs over those games.
On Memphis' side, the team relied heavily on Nick Brickel, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Brickel a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Gutt, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vassar will welcome Unionville-Sebewaing at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Memphis, they will challenge Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
