New York High School Baseball - Canandaigua Academy loses to Sutherland
May 3, 2013: Pittsford, NY 14534 The Sutherland Knights crushed the visiting Canandaigua Academy Braves baseball team by a score of 8-2 in Friday's league game.
The Knights (9-6) will now prepare for their game against Irondequoit (Rochester, NY). The Eagles go into the Section 5 Monroe County III game with a 1-12 record.
The Braves (5-9) will now prepare for their game against Victor (Victor, NY). The Blue Devils go into the non-league game with a 11-2 record. In their last game, Victor tipped Fairport (Fairport, NY), 8-5, in a league game.
Game Summary
For the second straight game the Knights got a strong starting pitching effort and defeated the Canandaigua Braves 8-2. Sutherland's starter, senior righthander Will Doggett, threw a complete game 5 hitter with 8 strikeouts for his second win of 2013. Sutherland used run scoring hits by Patrick McKay, Hunter Merrill and Jimmy Gilman and 4 safety squeezes to put away the Braves. The Knights also got down three sacrifice bunts to go along with the squeezes.
McKay and Merrill both had 2 hits to go along with both Gilman and Kane Shaw's 2 RBIs. Shaw had two of the squeezes while Gilman and Alec DePaolis each had 1. Michael Pringle also had a triple, run scored and an RBI to round out the offense.
