October 25, 2011: Colorado Springs, CO 80920 The Gateway Olympians soccer team scored 2 points and limited the host Liberty Lancers to 0 in the Olympians non-league triumph on Tuesday.
The Olympians now own a 14-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Cherry Creek for a non-league outing on Thursday, October 27. Gateway will meet a Bruins squad coming off a 7-0 non-league win over Aurora Central (Aurora, CO). The Bruins record now stands at 16-0.
With the loss, Liberty drops to 10-6 on the season.
Game Summary
A competitive playoff match from the first whistle. Liberty was fast paced in the center of the field and had many opportunities from free kicks and corner kicks. Alan Garcia for Gateway had 3 big saves from free kicks that kept a clean shutout for his team.
Gateway Scored at the 15th minute with a through pass from Klilekie Linga to Miguel Mendoza who dribbled the keeper and slotted the ball into the net.
In the second half Liberty pressed more into the offensive half with more pace and determination. Gateway was able to defend and slow the pace. At the 65th minute Miguel Mendoza was able to control a defensive stop for Gateway and play a big through ball to an on running Santiago Quintero, who took a great self touch and shot the ball past the keeper for the second Gateway goal.
