October 18, 2013: Albuquerque, NM 87114 The Cibola Cougars soccer team scored 6 points and limited the visiting La Cueva Bears to 3 in the Cougars non-league victory on Friday.
Next, the Cougars face the Los Lunas Tigers (Los Lunas, NM) in a non-league contest, on Wednesday, October 23. Cibola will attempt to better on its 6-3 season record. The Tigers enter the contest with a 1-8 record after their 10-0 non-league loss to Cleveland (Rio Rancho, NM).
The Bears now have a 6-3 record.
Game Summary
The Coogs surprised the Bears with 2 goals by freshman striker Taylor Maute in the first 5 minutes of the game. One on an assist from Kayli Stucker and another to beat the Bears keeper of an assist from Taylor Nez. The Cougars pressed for another score resulting in an own goal off a corner kick from Maute. Maute completed a hat trick scoring her 3rd goal from an assist from Juanita Johnson. The Bears clawed back with a goal from a free kick and then off of a ground driven cross. Kayli Stucker put in a direct free kick nearly stopped by the Bears keeper but found its way in to finish the half 5 - 2. The 2nd half battle was fierce. The Coogs relaxing and playing from the wings while the Bears upped their intensity and pushed hard for goals. The Bears scored their final goal of the match. The Bears missed an opportunity with a penalty which hit the cross bar and Coogs keep (Ariah Redhouse) scrambled to save the rebound. Juanita put the game away with an assist from Hope Johnson.
