Indiana High School Volleyball - Alexandria-Monroe edged by Muncie Burris
August 26, 2014: Muncie, IN 47306 The Muncie Burris Owls volleyball team scored 3 points and limited the visiting Alexandria-Monroe Tigers to 2 in the Owls non-league victory on Tuesday.
The Owls now have a 2-0 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to New Prairie for a non-league game on Saturday, August 30.
The Tigers (6-1) will now prepare for their game against Blackford (Hartford City, IN). The Bruins enter the Central Indiana game with a 1-0 record.
Match Summary
The Burris volleyball team pulled together and overcame a knee injury to team co-captain, Taylor Kring. Taylor had 10 kills prior to suffering a knee injury early during the second set. Emily Brinkman and Taylor Harman stepped up their leadership. The team rallied behind the spirited play of our seniors and the energetic student section.
Our team serving and passing was the determining factor . We managed to win "the service line" against two incredibly talented back court players from Alexandria. We served 13 aces and we were able to limit Alexandria to just 8 aces.
Our team's ability to control the ball during the long rallies forced Alexandria to make errors during critical parts of the match. The Player of the match Emily Brinkman, was able to create offensive opportunities for evry hitter. Alyssa Peters, Isabel Gothard, and Marissa Dudley did a great job and recoded big kills during key moments of the match.
Match Note: Last year the Owls also upset Alexandria in five sets.
