Arizona High School Basketball - Arcadia over Coronado
November 30, 2010: Phoenix, AZ 85018 Fans at Tuesday's league challenge between the Arcadia Titans (Phoenix, AZ) and the visiting Coronado Dons (Scottsdale, AZ), saw Arcadia's basketball squad knock off Coronado by a score of 48-28.
With the victory, Arcadia improves its record to 1-0 on the campaign. The Titans travel to Desert Edge (Goodyear, AZ) to battle the Scorpions in a non-league challenge on Wednesday, December 1. The Scorpions come into the challenge with a record of 2-4. Desert Edge lost 58-18 in their recent non-league challenge against Cactus (Glendale, AZ)
Next up, the Dons battle the Mingus Marauders (Cottonwood, AZ) in a non-league challenge, on Wednesday, December 1. Coronado will attempt to improve on its 0-3 season record.
First Quarter
Arcadia raced out to an early 9 - 0 lead and ended its first quarter of the season with a 12 - 3 lead on Coronado. Six different Lady Titans scored in the period, led by three points from Gianna Grumbein, and three players each scored one point for Coronado.
Second Quarter
Arcadia continued to control the game in the second quarter, outscoring the Dons 12 - 6, and taking a 24 - 9 lead at the half. Maise Tuipulotu scored five points for the Lady Titans in the period, while Giminez scored three for Coronado.
Third Quarter
Arcadia and Coronado traded scores, but Coronado cut into Arcadia's lead, led by nine points on three three-point shots from Hudson. Diana Musina's seven points helped Arcadia keep pace, as Coronado outscored Arcadia 14 - 12 in the period. Still, Arcadia led 36 - 23 at the end of three quarters.
Fourth Quarter
Coronado went on a 5 - 1 run to open the fourth quarter, and pulled within nine points, 37 - 28, with six minutes to go. The Lady Titans shut out Coronado the rest of the way, scoring the last 11 points of the game, to win the quarter 12 - 5, and the game, 48 - 28. Halli Schmittenberg paced Arcadia in the quarter with five points, while Hudson scored three of her game-high 14 points for Coronado during the period. Maise Tuipulotu led the Lady Titans with nine points, Gianna Grumbein added eight, and Diana Musina finished with seven. In all, 11 different Arcadia players scored during the game. Megan Gillespie led the Lady Titans with 11 rebounds, and Jenna Longo contributed five steals.
