California High School Basketball - South Gate edges Jordan
February 9, 2011: Los Angeles, CA 90002 The South Gate Rams (South Gate, CA) basketball nipped the host Jordan Bulldogs (Los Angeles, CA), 57-54 in Wednesday's league test.
The Rams (14-3) will now prepare for their test against South East (South Gate, CA). The Jaguars go into the test with a 0-3 record.
The Bulldogs now own a 2-3 record.
First Quarter
In the final game of the season for Jordan JV, the South Gate Rams played a tough game. The Rams scored ten points in the quarter 4 from Randy Gomez, Aaron Ochoa and 2 from Jesus Terrones.
Second Quarter
Both teams battled to gain a positive lead before the half ended but neither team was able to as the Rams & Bulldogs both scored 14 points. Randy scored 3, Brandon scored 6, Jose & David 2, and Reyes Mojica went 1-2 from the free throw line. The Rams ended the half down one point.
Third Quarter
The Bulldogs saw quick defensive adjustments as the Rams limited their opponents to 9 points and scored 13. Point production came from five different players including Aaron who gained most of his boards during the third quarter on his way to another 18 rebound night.
Fourth Quarter
In the fourth the Rams' offense struggled to find the hoop as it was limited to eight points with Brandon scoring 4. The game was sent to overtime tied at 45 - 45.
Overtime
The first overtime both teams scored 7, Pedro Cazares hit a clutch 3 as the Rams fell behind early. Randy had an opportunity to seal the win in the first OT yet went 1-3 at the free throw line.
In the second OT the Rams and Bulldogs were exhausted as the Rams scored 5 points to the Bulldogs 2 to seal the win and take the head to head match up 2-0.
