Arizona High School Basketball - Arcadia crushes Mingus
January 6, 2011: Cottonwood, AZ 86326 Arcadia Titans (Phoenix, AZ) backers were in high spirits Thursday as they witnessed their basketball squad bounce the host Mingus Marauders (Cottonwood, AZ), 55-20 in a non-league bout.
With the win, Arcadia upgrades its record to 12-6 on the season. The Titans host Williams Field (Gilbert, AZ) to play the Black Hawks in a 4A East Sky bout on Tuesday, January 11. The Black Hawks go into the bout with a record of 5-7. Williams Field won 55-21 in their recent league bout against Coronado (Scottsdale, AZ)
Next up, the Marauders play the Flagstaff Eagles (Flagstaff, AZ) in a 4A Grand Canyon bout, on Friday, January 7. Mingus will attempt to upgrade on its 1-5 season record. The Eagles go into the bout with a 12-3 record after their 54-34 non-league win over Prescott (Prescott, AZ).
First Quarter
Arcadia jumped out to an early 10 - 1 lead to set the tone for the evening, and finished the first quarter with a 14 - 5 advantage. Kylie Herd led the Lady Titans with six points in the period, while Joni Olson scored three for Mingus.
Second Quarter
Arcadia scored seven straight points to open the second quarter, then watched Mingus fight back from a 21 - 5 deficit with eight straight points of their own. It was 21 - 13 in favor of Arcadia with just under two minutes to go, which was as close as Mingus would get, when the Lady Titans scored the last three points of the period. In all, Arcadia outscored the Marauders 10 - 8 for the period, and took a 24 - 13 lead into the locker room at the half. Gabrielle Evans scored seven points for Arcadia in the quarter, while Seairah Ebert and Kayla Storie accounted for Mingus' scoring output with four points apiece.
Third Quarter
Arcadia blew the game open in the third quarter, amassing a 25 - 3 advantage in the period, to take a commanding 49 - 16 lead at the end of the third quarter. Gabrielle Evans scored eight for the Lady Titans in the quarter, and Taylor Jochin tallied two for Mingus.
Fourth Quarter
Arcadia coasted home with a 6 - 4 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter, to win 55 - 20. Arcadia stifled Mingus 31 - 7 in the second half, and counting the last two minutes of the second quarter, the Lady Titans had a 34 - 7 advantage over the last 18 minutes of play. Dotti Stuart had four points for Arcadia in the fourth quarter. The Marauders' Seariah Ebert led her team with six points for the game. Arcadia's Gabrielle Evans led all scorers with 17 points, and teammates Kylie Herd and Megan Gillespie chipped in with 11 points and 10 points, respectively. Herd also corralled seven boards, while Evans had five steals.
