Minnesota High School Basketball - Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta routs Benson
January 16, 2018: Benson, MN 56215 In Tuesday's league outing, the Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta Tigers (Morris, MN) basketball squad overwhelmed the host Benson (Benson, MN), by a margin of 64-35.
The Tigers (7-7) will now prepare for their outing against Montevideo (Montevideo, MN). The Thunderhawks go into the West Central outing with a 1-12 record. In their last outing, Montevideo was trounced by Sauk Centre (Sauk Centre, MN), 65-38, in a league outing.
The now own a 0-10 record. They play next when they host Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City for a West Central bout on Thursday, January 18. Benson will play a Falcons squad coming off a 78-55 league loss to Melrose (Melrose, MN). The Falcons record now stands at 7-8.
First Quarter
The Morris Area Chokio Alberta Tigers got back to the .500 mark with a convincing 64 - 39 win over Benson this past Tuesday night on the road. The Tigers, winners of 5 straight games, are now 7 - 7 on the season. The Tigers started strong and jumped out to an early lead and never looked back to defeat their conference rivals, who are still without a win on the year. Jackson Loge scored 13 of his game high 15 points in the first half to get the Tiger offense rolling. By halftime they built up a 44 - 19 lead. The great start was also aided by the continued torrid shooting of Jaret Johnson, who cashed in on another trio of 3 point baskets in the half and tallied 13 points as well.
Second Quarter
The Tiger offense was clicking as they built up a double digit lead early and were able to go the bench early in the game. All the Tigers starters had at least 4 points in the first half that led to the big lead.
Third Quarter
The second half saw the Tiger starters continue to play well. Camden Arndt managed the point guard position well as he continued to run a successful offense. The junior guard tallied 7 more points, as well, to give him 12 for the night and put 3 Tiger starters in double figures. Connor Koebernick scored 9 for the game and Tate Nelson added 6 to give the Tigers plenty of scoring punch. Senior post Judah Malek came off the bench and contributed 5 points. The last 7 minutes of the game saw the Tiger reserves with some well earned playing time. Junior forward Kevin Asfeld's late basket put the finishing touches on a 64 - 39 win.
The Tigers were led in rebounding by guard Tate Nelson, who tallied 10 rebounds. Johnson added 8 boards. Loge, Koebernick and Arndt all had 4 assists to lead that category. Next up for the Tigers is a home game with Montevideo on Friday night.
