Indiana High School Baseball - Blackford can't hold off Mississinewa
May 5, 2015: Gas City, IN 46933 The Mississinewa Indians baseball team scored 8 runs and limited the visiting Blackford Bruins to 7 in the Indians league victory on Tuesday.
The Indians (6-5) will now prepare for their match against Southern Wells (Poneto, IN). The Raiders go into the non-league match with a 2-10 record. In their last match, Southern Wells was edged by Norwell (Ossian, IN), 5-0, in a non-league match.
The Bruins (4-15) will now prepare for their match against Frankton (Frankton, IN). The Eagles go into the Central Indiana match with a 6-7 record. In their last match, Frankton tipped Madison-Grant (Fairmount, IN), 5-4, in a league match.
Game Summary
The Bruins jumped out to a 2-0 in the first. Mississinewa took the lead 4-2 after 2 with timely hits and the help from 2 Bruin errors. An RBI single by Austin Langdon cut the lead to 1 in the 3rd. The Bruins took the lead 6-4 took advantage of an error, wild pitch and passed ball. Chase Mahan's RBI single in the 5th extended the lead to 7-4.
Daniel Strickland was hit hard early but settled down to strike out 4 in a row over the 4th and 5th and the Bruins led by 3 heading to the 6th. A costly couple of errors lead to 2 runs, but Brandon Barkdull got out of the jam with a pick off, sac fly and fielder's choice to end the inning. The Bruins left a runner on 2nd to end the 7th. Ole Miss got only their 2nd walk of the game to lead off the 7th, but a double, single and single won it 8-7 for Ole Miss. Strickland returned to face the last batter tied 7-7 but gave up the second single on the first pitch. Barkdull took the loss.
Chase Mahan went 3-4 to continue his hot hitting.
