The South Jones Braves (Ellisville, MS) basketball nipped the host Newton Tigers (Newton, MS), 47-42 in Saturday's non-league test.

The Braves (18-6) will now prepare for their test against Hattiesburg (Hattiesburg, MS). The Tigers go into the non-league test with a 12-2 record. In their last test, Hattiesburg got by Meridian (Meridian, MS), 53-47, in a league test.

The Tigers now own a 9-10 record. They take the field next when they travel to Kemper County for a 3A Region 5 test on Friday, January 27.
