Virginia High School Baseball - Goochland holds off Nottoway
March 29, 2012: Nottoway, VA 23930 Goochland Bulldogs (Goochland, VA) fans exited the stadium thrilled Thursday as they observed their baseball squad overcome the host Nottoway Cougars (Nottoway, VA), 9-5 in a league test.
With the win, Goochland upgrades its record to 3-3 on the season. The Bulldogs host Louisa County (Mineral, VA) to battle the Lions in a non-league test on Friday, March 30. The Lions come into the test with a record of 2-3. Louisa County lost 9-2 in their recent non-league test against Monroe (Stanardsville, VA)
With the defeat, Nottoway falls to 0-2 on the season. The Cougars travel to Lunenburg Central (Victoria, VA) to battle the Chargers in a A James River test on Tuesday, April 17. The Chargers come into the test with a record of 4-3.
Game Summary
Goochland scores 6 runs in the second inning on 4 hits and 3 batters hit by pitches. The inning was capped off by a 3-run double by Chase Brookman. After 2 outs were recorded in the Nottoway half of the fourth inning a trio of errors led to 3 unearned runs leaving it a 6-3 game. Goochland answered with 2 runs in the top of the fifth inning on a 2-run double by catcher Scott Pierce and added another in the sixth when Cole Starke reached base for the fourth time with a run scoring double to finish 2 for 2 with a walk and HBP. Chase Nuckols relieved Josh Driver at the end of the fourth and completed the game for Goochland picking up the save. Alex McDowell recorded 15 put outs at 1B in the game.
