Colorado High School Basketball - Academy trounced by Jefferson Academy
February 12, 2010: Broomfield, CO 80021 The Jefferson Academy Jaguars trounced the visiting Academy Wildcats basketball team by a score of 62-41 in Friday's league battle.
The Jaguars now possess a 18-0 record. They play next when they travel to Arrupe Jesuit for a 4A/3A Frontier battle on Tuesday, February 16. Jefferson Academy will meet a Generals team coming off a 58-38 league loss to Denver Science & Tech (Denver, CO). The Generals record now stands at 1-15.
The Wildcats (8-10) will now prepare for their battle against The Pinnacle (Federal Heights, CO). The Timberwolves come into the 4A/3A Frontier battle with a 10-8 record. In their last battle, The Pinnacle was overwhelmed by Bennett (Bennett, CO), 44-43, in a league battle.
First Quarter
The Jefferson Academy Jaguar seniors are given tribute and accomplish a 21 point victory to improve mark to 9-0 league and 18-0 overall. A slow start to the first quarter in front of a capacity crowd, witnessed the Jaguars miss many shots as the visiting Academy Wildcats open up a 10-7 lead.
Second Quarter
The second quarter was all "Defense" which is a staple for the Jaguars. #1 Senior captain Tom Olson hit three long range triples and #33 Junior Chase Layton played his best game of the season scoring 5 in the second quarter as JA outscored the Academy 21-5 to take a 13 point lead into half 28-15.
Third Quarter
The 3rd quarter was played close as Jefferson Academy won the quarter 13-9. The lead after 3 quarters was JA 41- The Academy 24.
Fourth Quarter
Seniors #23 Dave Burkel scored 5 and #15 Jared Jenkins scored 4, plus #30 Junior Jason Propst dominated the glass, dished out a key assist, and scored 4 as the Jaguars finished with a 21 point quarter and a 62-41 victory.
