January 21, 2011: Tucson, AZ 85742 The Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks basketball team (Tucson, AZ), was nudged 54-50 in Friday's league battle with the visiting Buena Colts (Sierra Vista, AZ)
The Colts now possess a 16-5 record. They play next when they host Tucson for a 5A Southern battle on Friday, January 28.
The Nighthawks (13-8) will now prepare for their battle against Mountain View (Tucson, AZ). The Mountain Lions come into the 5A Southern battle with a 5-14 record. In their last battle, Mountain View was nudged by Rincon (Tucson, AZ), 60-46, in a league battle.
First Quarter
Buena came out cold and trailed by 13 after one quarter.
Second Quarter
Buena started playing better but still only shot 25% from the field for the first half.
Third Quarter
Buena started off a little rough but definitely was playing much better. They got into their uptempo game and were clicking on all cylinders by the end of the quarter. They were only down 5 when the quarter ended.
Fourth Quarter
The quarter was a battle back and forth. Every time Buena came close or tied, Ironwood answered. Buena finally took their first lead with 44 seconds left in the game with a 3 point shot by Kiani Dillard. An intentional foul with 20 seconds left and Buena leading by only 1 put Merl Branch on the line. Merl made one shot but Buena retained possession. Marc Matthews closed out the scoring when Ironwood had to foul by making it a two score lead at 54-50.
