Georgia High School Basketball - Northeast nips Wilkinson County
November 27, 2018: Irwinton, GA 31042 Fans at Tuesday's non-league challenge between the Northeast Raiders (Macon, GA) and the host Wilkinson County Warriors (Irwinton, GA), saw Northeast's basketball squad hold off Wilkinson County by a tally of 93-90.
With the victory, Northeast improves its record to 2-1 on the campaign. The Raiders travel to Central (Macon, GA) to play the Chargers in a non-league challenge on Friday, November 30. The Chargers come into the challenge with a record of 0-0.
Next up, the Warriors play the Hancock Central Bulldogs (Sparta, GA) in a non-league challenge, on Friday, December 7. Wilkinson County will attempt to improve on its 0-1 season record.
First Quarter
Wilkinson County, defending class A champions, sprinted out to a quick double figure lead, but the Northeast Raiders, led by Ty'ree Gilbert and Darius Dunn, closed the gap to 1. First qt score Wilkinson 19 - Northeast 18.
Second Quarter
Cam'rone Cherry kept the Raiders within striking distance, scoring 10 points in the 2nd Qt as Wilkinson closed the half with a 45 - 34 lead.
Third Quarter
The Raiders crept to within 6 points at the end of the third Qt with Cherry scoring 10 points, and a spark off the bench from Jacoby Hill who played hard nosed defense against the Warrior guards, and also chipping in with a key 3 point shot. Ty'ree Gilbert added 6 points and Isaiah Hilson hit a couple of layups as the Raiders closed the gap to 66 - 60 at the end of 3.
Fourth Quarter
The Northeast Raiders exploded for a 33 point 4th Qtr as Ty'ree Gilbert scored 16 points, Cam'rone Cherry scored 9, Darius Dunn 3, Te'Yoan Hill hit 2 clutch free throws after grabbing a key defensive rebound to seal the victory Northeast Raiders 93 Wilkinson County Warriors 90.
