March 28, 2018: Ellicott City, MD 21043 Atholton Raiders (Columbia, MD) fans exited the stadium thrilled Wednesday as they observed their baseball squad hold off the host Howard Lions (Ellicott City, MD), 5-4 in a league test.
With the win, Atholton upgrades its record to 1-1 on the season. The Raiders travel to River Hill (Clarksville, MD) to battle the Hawks in a Howard County test on Thursday, March 29. The Hawks come into the test with a record of 1-0. River Hill won 14-4 in their recent league test against Hammond (Columbia, MD)

Game Summary
The Raiders played real solid baseball and staked themselves to a 5-0 lead after 4 innings. They then had to hold on as Howard scored one in the 5th and 3 in the 7th to come within a run of tying the game.
Benji Thalheimer pitched 5 strong innings scattering five singles and giving up an unearned run to get the win. He also had a bunt single and a walk in three plate appearances.
Jack Lawrence came in and got a thrilling save, striking out the side with the bases loaded in the 6th and then picking off the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the 7th, after Connor McManus also threw out the tying run at the plate on a line single to center field.
