Coaches Summary

First Quarter

The Tigers of Morris Area Chokio Alberta got back on the winning track with a 65 - 56 over the previously unbeaten Hancock Owls this past Saturday on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Morris. The Tigers, who had lost 5 straight are now 3 - 7 while the Owls suffered their first loss and are 6 - 1. Despite the outstanding performance by Owl senior guard Noah Kannegiesser the Tigers balance allowed them to outlast the Owls. Kannegiesser scored a game high 35 points, but the Tigers balance proved to be enough for them to prevail. Jaret Johnson's 27 points including a 3 pointer that broke a late tie helped lead the Tigers to the win in front of a nice Stevens County crowd at the noon clash at the P.E Center. Connor Koebernick hit a trio of 3's and finished with 13 points, Cam Arndt tallied 11 and Jackson Loge contributed 10 points in the win for the TIgers.

Third Quarter

The Tigers inside game led to an early first half lead as Kannegiesser matched the Tigers basket for basket early. The Tigers would eventually gain the lead with Koebernick's 3 point shooting leading the way. The Tiger lead was as big as 16 points late in the first half, but the Owls cut it to 12 at the break, 38-26. The Owls continued to close the gap in the second half and things got interesting down the stretch as Kannegiesser tied the game with a long 3 with 3 minutes to go. But, Johnson countered with his own 3 and the Tigers made their free throws down the stretch to win by 9. Arndt was a perfect 7 for 7 from the charity stripe to erase any heroic comeback from the Tigers neighbor to the South.
