California High School Basketball - Community Charter edges Ivy Academia
January 27, 2017: Chatsworth, CA 91304 The Community Charter Titans (Lakeview Terrace, CA) basketball nipped the host Ivy Academia Pumas (Chatsworth, CA), 59-53 in Friday's league test.
The Titans (11-8) will now prepare for their test against Discovery (Pacoima, CA). The Warriors go into the North Valley test with a 2-10 record. In their last test, Discovery was tipped by Valor Academy (Van Nuys, CA), 72-35, in a league test.
The Pumas now own a 5-9 record. They play next when they travel to Valor Academy for a North Valley test on Wednesday, February 1. Ivy Academia will encounter a squad coming off a 72-35 league win over Discovery (Pacoima, CA). The record now stands at 5-6.
First Quarter
Community Charter took a 10-7 lead into the second quarter
Second Quarter
Ivy Academia bounced back to outscore CCHS 17-7 and take a 24-17 lead into the break.
Third Quarter
In the third quarter the Titans rallied behind Kevin Sandoval and Monya Ward plus a strong defensive effort by the whole squad. In particular Steven Jones and Kevin Sandoval stepped it up and forced numerous Ivy turnovers to help the Titans take a 39-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
In the fourth quarter the Titans kept charging as Sebastian Sandoval, Brandon Chavarria, and Thomas Young stepped it up. Chavarria scored 8 of his 13 points in the quarter. Young had five of his seven points and six rebounds down the stretch and Sandoval scored six of eight points in the quarter. The Titans made their foul shots down the stretch to clinch the victory 59-53 over Ivy.
It was a great team victory as many players stepped up when needed and the bench was alive and full of energy throughout the second half. David Arreola had another solid game with five points, six rebounds, and two assists while playing great defense. Brandon Chavarria had 13 points, 5 rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Monya Ward recorded another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, scoring 13 second half points despite foul trouble.
Sebastian Sandoval had eight points five rebounds and three assists.
