Coaches Summary

First Quarter

MI got the opening tip drove to the basket and missed a lay-in. That set the tone for the rest of the quarter , wit mercer having all kinds of scoring opportunities, but not converting chances into points. The period ended 11-9 Mercer Island

Second Quarter

With Sexton, Schut and Rasmussen scoring all 18 points, the Islanders adding stifling defense and went into halftime up 29-17

Third Quarter

Lutu took over in the third quarter , scoring 9 of 13 Islander points. Score MI led 42-31

Fourth Quarter

Early in the fourth period , Newport rallied behind Collin Bennet's aggressive p[lay and scored 11 consecutive points to cut an Islander 20 point lead down to 9. Evan Zahniser then, made a great drive for 2 , then hit a 3 pointer to spark the Islanders on a 15 point run to blow the game open The bench was cleared and the reserves maintained the effort, hit some nice baskets and the final score was 62-38. Great defense and timely offense.
