October 13, 2006: Newton, IL 62448 Fans at Friday's league match between the Newton Eagles (Newton, IL) and the visiting East Richland/West Richland Tigers (Olney, IL), witnessed Newton's football team top East Richland/West Richland by a tally of 42-14.
The Eagles (8-0) will now prepare for their match against Mater Dei (Breese, IL). The Knights come into the non-league test with a 7-1 record. In their last test, Mater Dei was outscored by Unity (Tolono, IL), 17-0, in a league test.
Next, the Tigers battle the Massac County/Joppa-Maple Grove Patriots (Metropolis, IL) in a non-league test, on Friday, October 20. East Richland/West Richland will attempt to upgrade on its 3-5 season record. The Patriots come into the test with a 5-3 record after their 29-12 league win over Murphysboro (Murphysboro, IL).
