The Hornets (6-0) will now prepare for their battle against De Anza (Richmond, CA). The Dons go into the Alameda Contra Costa battle with a 1-0 record. In their last battle, De Anza nudged Hercules (Hercules, CA), 22-1, in a league battle.
The Eagles now sport a 4-4 record. They play next when they host Bishop O'Dowd for a non-league battle on Friday, April 1. American will meet a Dragons squad coming off a 8-7 non-league win over Clayton Valley (Concord, CA). The Dragons record now stands at 8-0.
Game Summary
The Hornets rode an offense that had 12 hits in five innings and Katherine Johnson's clutch pitching to begin the Standley Cup with a win over American High of Fremont 6 to 3. Seven Hornets had at least one hit and five Hornets had at least one RBI. Drew Jones and Jessica Ravetti each had 3 hits. Drew had two RBIs. Ravetti had a double and an RBI. Megan Averitt had two hits, including a double, two stolen bases, and a run scored. Alexis Konstantino also had a double and an RBI. Katherine Johnson pitched out of a jam in the top of the fifth. She got the American High clean-up hitter to ground to second for the final out of the inning with runners on second and third and American only a run behind. The Hornets then scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth and the game time ran out.
