California High School Softball - Torrey Pines nudges Carlsbad
May 26, 2012: Carlsbad, CA 92008 The crowd at Saturday's non-league match between the Torrey Pines Falcons (San Diego, CA) and the host Carlsbad Lancers (Carlsbad, CA), saw Torrey Pines's softball squad nip Carlsbad by a count of 1-0.
The Falcons now sport a 31-6 record.
With the loss, Carlsbad falls to 19-11 on the campaign.
Game Summary
FALCONS WIN CIF TITLE-MAKE SCHOOL HISTORY. The Torrey Pines Falcons won the San Diego Section-CIF-Division One title defeating the Carlsbad Lancers 1-0 in 10 innings last night on the campus of UCSD before an overflow crowd. Torrey Pines which broke the school record for wins in a seson with 31 claimed the very first CIF softball title in the schools 38 year history. Junior, Right-Handed Pitcher, Rachel Nasland (Notre Dame) threw a 10 inning complete game shut out with 15 strike outs to improve her record to 18-2 on the season. Nasland threw 35 innings in the playoffs allowing only 2 runs while striking out 57. In the bottom of the 10th inning, Freshmen Shelbianne Evans (2-3-run scored, 2 stolen bases) had a 1 out single for the Falcons. Evans stole 2nd base and advanced to 3rd on a ground out. With 2 outs, Junior Julia Yacker hit a long walk off RBI, Double off the right field fence to secure the title for Torrey Pines who finishes the season with a record of 31-6 and a CIF title.
